HISTORY OF MUUNGANO PARTY

2007

Birth of Muungano Party

Muungano Party is a registered political party in Kenya. The party was founded in the year 2007 and registered on 5th November the same year. The party got registered as MUUNGANO DEVELOPMENT MOVEMENT PARTY in the year 2007 general elections. The party fielded several candidates for elective positions.

2013

Change of Name & General Election

Prior to the 2013 general election, the party changed its name to MUUNGANO PARTY. At the national delegates conference held at Email town in 2012 PROF Kibwana was elected the Party leader. In the 2013 general election, the party won several seats including the first GOVERNOR for Makueni County, Prof Kivutha Kibwana and Hon. Francis Mwangangi winning the Yata parliamentary seat. The party won several ward representative seats in several counties.

March 2017

The Coalition with WIPER DEMOCRATIC PARTY

Party signed a working coalition with the WIPER DEMOCRATIC MOVEMENT PARTY which expired after working for two years. In the 2017 general elections the party retained the governorship of Makueni County and also winning the MATUNGULU parliamentary seat and many war representative seats.

2022

Member of Azimio Party

Prior to the 2022 general elections, Muungano Party became a member of the Azimio coalition.
